The Chinese Larn to Sile

City authorities of Beijing engaged 40 instructors who shall teach residents of the Chinese capital to smile in the streets. Such measures are explained by preparation to the Olympiad.

In fact, heads of the city wish that Beijing inhabitants would demonstrate to foreign guests “zest for life and hospitality”. According to a survey which has been recently conducted in the Beijing streets, only 2% of the Chinese smile having met a foreigner. First lessons to “smiliness” have already taken place. At one of such lessons the instructors, having taken positions at the entrance to the Shanghai theatre, smiled to all visitors and asked how they were doing.

Beijing authorities eager to see amiability in faces of their citizens have yet time – as know, the summer Olympiad will take place in the summer 2008.
