Beijing: the Struggle for Quiet

Beijing authorities intend to take serious measures to regulate the level of noise in the city. This was reported by RIA "Novosti" with reference to the Sinhua Agency.

It seems that the new policy will affect practically every city resident. According to the provision approved by the administration of the Chinese capital, construction companies conducting noisy works between the hours of 10pm to 8am and on national holidays will face a fine of up to 200,000 yuan ($25,000). Moreover, street traders who make use of loudspeakers to tout for business will also be punished – they face a fine of up to 50,000 yuan (over $6000). Motorists can also expect to part with 5000 yuan ($625) for using their horns in non-designated areas.
