TransLink Agency Chosen to Provide Interpreting at CIS Upstream Technology Summit
The CIS Summit of Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Technologies was held from 11-13 February at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Istanbul.
TransLink provided interpreting support for the forum consisting of 3 simultaneous interpreters.
The main goal of the summit was to facilitate open discussions among heads of oil and gas companies, discuss pressing topics, assess the efficiency
of technologies and allow colleagues in the industry to exchange experience. The format of the summit included seminars, round tables, coordinated
business meetings and numerous opportunities to establish contacts with other representatives of the oil and gas sector.
Registration of delegates and a welcoming reception took place on the eve of the summit. February 12 was the first working day of the summit, featuring
an open panel discussion devoted to prospects for infocommunication technologies in the oil and gas industry. Seminars were conducted on the prospects
of geological and exploration work, making use of associated gas and effective management of exploration and production data.
The second day was devoted to the discussion of such matters as new methods for developing fields, optimizing crude production and increasing the role
of information technologies in exploration and production. After the main program, there was a reception where participants could establish business
contacts and chat in an informal atmosphere.
For the TransLink interpreters and translators it was the latest of many such events. They had already more than once proven their professionalism
by servicing high-level forums that required outstanding knowledge of specialized terminology.
The event gathered not only guests from the countries of the former USSR, but also representatives of oil of gas producing companies from the
United States, France, Great Britain, Italy and Germany. The forum was serviced by 3 simultaneous interpreters from TransLink.
Karina Georgievna Borovik, one of interpreters who worked at the summit, said: "as for the organization of the summit as a whole, everything was
run at a very high level, without a single hitch. Everything that was declared in the program of the event began on time and was conducted in
strict conformity with the schedule.
The only difficulty for us was that we were not given copies of the forum program and guest list in advance. As a result, for example, we learned
the names of the guests and participating companies and had to remember them on the fly. This was especially true of the first day of the meeting.
As the introduction to the entire event, it was supposed to be the most trouble-free day of all.
The conference was devoted to oil and gas issues, and the vocabulary, of course, was professional. I had previous experience working at similar events,
for example, organized by the All-Russian Research Institute of Natural Gas and Natural Gas Technologies, so I had no difficulty interpreting. Though
I must give credit to my colleague Alexander Nikolayevich Dron, whose experience and skills in simultaneous interpreting using special oil and gas
terminology exceeds my own."
