Translink about Japanese literature on the air
On the 19 of February the regular program on the air of “Moscow is speaking radio (92.0 FM) and Translink Translation Agency with translation
issues being discussed took place. This time we invited Victor Mazurik, interpreter, Japan expert, specialist on Japanese literature and history.
Consequently, Japanese literature in Russian translations was discussed. Victor Petrovich is a reader of Japanese linguistics at the Institute of
Asian and African Studies of MGU and has translated the works of Kojiro Serizawa, Zunjitiro Tanizaki and other Japanese authors. He is also a full
member of the Russian affiliate of the Urasenke tea ceremony association. In a word, we had many subjects to discuss.
As it happens, Japanese literature translated into Russian creates a very specific impression about the country by Russian readers. What is the matter,
which books are translated, and why are all these questions arose during the programme. Of course the differences between our reader and Japanese writer
mentality had been mentioned. Japanese literature translator should have a particular intuition to bring the sense of Japanese text fragments without
huge associated explanation texts.
Besides during the conversation the postmodernism features in oeuvres of Haruki Marakumi and Murakami Ryu were touched (fast all of their works had been
translated into Russian), translations by D.Kovalenin and B. Akunin.
In one word, object of conversation was so various and interesting that the program was too limited in time to contain at least a part of wished
information. We hope to see Victor Mazurik once again. And the questions concerned Japanese literature will be touched in the projects of TransLink
Translation Agency.
