Ice City Erected in Northern China
The Chinese city of Harbin, situated in the north of China, is holding a traditional festival of ice sculptures. Every year an entire ice city is erected
here which attracts many tourists from various countries. Not without reason has Harbin long been acknowledged as the world's main centre of ice
architecture.
On this occasion, the theme park will feature 2,000 compositions – genuine works of art, constructed from 120,000 cubic metres of ice and 80,000 cubic
metres of snow. They will occupy an area of approximately 400,000 square metres. One of the sculptures will represent the Niagara Falls, which will form
the backdrop for a performance to be given on ice by a Russian ballet troupe.
The park is located on Solnechny Island – a favourite resting place for townspeople and, incidentally, once the site of a dacha settlement for Russian
residents of Harbin.
