TransLink – the official translator for G8 events
The company will provide translation and interpreting services at events over the entire duration of Russia's G8 presidency in 2006.
The first event to involve translators and interpreters from TransLink Translation Agency was the
meeting of G8 finance ministers. The finest specialists in the field of simultaneous interpretation
with more than ten years' experience were engaged.
Dmitry Beloshapkin, Head of the Translation Department at TransLink, comments as follows: "Our simultaneous interpreters are professionals of the very highest
level, who have experience of working in international organizations, such as the UN, OSCE, PACE and others. The managers in charge of coordinating the work of
the interpreters have also participated in organizing the provision of interpreting services at events held at a high state level. We successfully coped with
the task set during the meeting of G8 finance ministers, which is evidenced by the positive comments from the event organizers."
Alexei Gerin, Director General of TransLink Translation Agency, says the following: "Our company has long been involved in providing services for the most
important state events, but translating and interpreting for the G8 is a completely different level. TransLink approached this task consistently, thoroughly
and very responsibly. We hope that this will enable us to make our own small contribution to the solution of the high-priority international problems being
discussed within the framework of the G8 events and St. Petersburg Summit."
Note on the G8
The "G8 Group" is an unofficial forum of the leaders of the world's most industrially developed democratic countries, the members of which are Russia, the
USA, the UK, France, Japan, Germany, Canada, Italy, as well the EU, which has limited status. The G8 member countries account for 49% of global export, 51%
of industrial production, and 49% of shares in the IMF.
The history of the "eight" (formerly "seven") dates back to November 1975, when the first meeting between the leaders of six countries (which Canada joined
a year later) took place in Rambouillet on the initiative of the French President V. Giscard d'Estaing. Since 1977 representatives of the EU directorate have
taken part in the meetings. Russia was accepted into the "eight" at the summit in Denver in 1997.
